Human trafficking, also known as trafficking in persons (TIP) is a form of modern slavery that involves the recruitment of men, women and children by deception or coercion for the purpose of exploitation.
Victims of TIP are often transported across international frontiers to be exploited far from their home country.
TIP is a global problem with an estimated 25 million victims in both developed and less developed countries.
The most common forms of TIP include labour exploitation, domestic servitude and sexual exploitation.
The Foreign Ministry works in partnership with the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) as well as the Public Prosecution, Royal Oman Police, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs to tackle this international problem.
